Nurtured in Faith - Newman News |
|
Written by Frank P. Hackett

I must confess it has been some time since my last retreat. This issue of the Newman News (downloadable from the Newman News Menu) reminds me that every retreat experience moved me to a better relationship with my God and or my neighbors. The various retreat opportunities on our campuses are doing the same for our students and faculty. The results are evident in the enclosed articles. There are increased commitments to prayer, service and the Catholic community.
Faith opportunities on campus have an enduring impact on the lives of the student participants. I hear from alumni who now in later years are very active in their faith and the Church. They frequently refer to Newman as a source of their adult faith life. Friendships, commitments to service, and dedication to prayer often began in their college days. The Catholic communities on campus are nurtured in faith through Newman Catholic Campus Ministry (NCCM).

Bishop Lennon Meets the Board |
Bishop Richard Lennon met with the Board of the Newman Foundation on September 10, 2008, for an open discussion. The Bishop noted that the Conference of American Catholic Bishops recently affirmed that its number one priority is catechesis, i.e., the instruction and education of the faithful. The Newman Ministry is a catechetical endeavor and, as such, is enthusiastically supported by this Bishop. Bishop Lennon has a special interest in Catholic youth and young adults and he said that his interaction with young people has shown them to be extremely hungry for things of the spirit. Exciting Opportunity--Newman News |
|
Newman Catholic Campus Ministry is alive, well and growing on the non-sectarian college campuses within the Diocese of Cleveland. New religious, social and educational programs are underway for the school year. This chance for catechesis and spiritual development of our Catholic youth is a primary focus of the American Catholic Bishops and Bishop Richard G. Lennon.
We at the Newman Foundation are excited to support this goal by providing ongoing funding for NCCM. An exciting opportunity to raise additional funds for the Newman Foundation endowment is available because of the generous offer of $10,000 by the Goudreau Family Charitable Lead Trust as a challenge grant to raise matching donations. Every dollar that is contributed up to $10,000 between now and year end will be matched! This will help us to increase our assistance to campus ministers and students for educational activities, retreats, music, liturgy, spiritual direction, service projects, and much more.
